Easter Tour 1998, 21 - 24th April, Sunderland

TOUR REVIEW
We take this opportunity to welcome Julian Kruse as a new CEGS member. Julian is a drinking partner of Brian’s which should suitably establish his credentials for membership.
For the record, Julian was one of the intrepid bunch that braved a British Spring for the 1998 Easter Tour, the others being Ed, Dave Lib, Brian, Scott, and Murray. Sunderland was the location and the courses played (eventually, due to the inclement weather) were: Brancepeth Castle, Morpeth, and Seaton Carew.
Mastery of the elements was crucial to good scoring so it was somewhat unexpected that Ed and Julian won the Doubles trophy and Ed won the singles (Julian, I promise to get the Shield to you soon, Ed).
A vote of thanks to Brian and Murray for organising(?) the Tour. A number of happenings will no doubt go down in CEGS folklore but we think that Murray and Julian’s ‘short-cut’ up the Al (9 hours was eventually required to reach Sunderland) deserves special mention. Remember to get them to tell you about it in Spain; travelling at that rate we reckon they should get there by Wednesday!
One of the benefits however, of being able to make the Easter Tour, was to witness at first-hand Julian being inaugurated in the customary manner, a GS on a wet night in Sunderland was bit of a daunting prospect, however, it was swigged with panache. Thanks to Murray for donating the Doubles prizes-a couple of fine, Swiss made, Planet Hollywood time pieces; Ed’s is running slow, can he have a replacement?
